THE ORIGIN STORY
Origin is a start-up that sources coffee from small farmer cooperatives in Uganda. We provide value addition by roasting the coffee locally for domestic consumption and increased market access both nationally and internationally. The aim of Origin is to supply high quality coffee whilst providing a fairer deal to the farmers. This is done by cutting out as many of the "middle-stages" as possible from when the farmers harvest the coffee bean until it appears on your counter. Through this, the profit to the farmer increases by approximately 20 - 30 cents per pound of coffee bought.
As a result, more roasters in the USA, Canada and Europe see the possibility of dealing directly with coffee producer organizations instead of going through exporters, to the benefit of the individual coffee farmer. We promote traceability, transparency and accountability.
Origin Coffee is an African start-up, founded 2016 by Jamada Kiyemba a former chemist. Jamada, since then, has been hard at work procuring and roasting coffee from cooperatives all over Uganda.
Here at Origin we believe in delivering quality coffee, from as close to the source as possible. Our partners grow organic and fair trade coffees using sustainable practices, and we in turn pay them a premium over a market price.
It is Origin’s dream to increase the popularity of domestic coffee in Uganda, and to increase the presence and awareness of Ugandan coffee in the world.
